People say that Cornwall is shit, that Cornwall is nothing special, and that its just a County's wishful thinking.
Well you know what, I hate that people can be so naive about the place that they live in, and it shows that they have no pride, and they should go F**k off somewhere else.
Cornwall is beautiful, it has its own language, its own flag, its own coat of arms. It is rich in wildlife and in plants. People complain that it always rains, but would Cornwall be as pretty, as green, without all that rain? No. People need to look past the negatives and look at the positives, and Cornwall is full of positives.
It has hundreds of the most lustrous beaches less than a couple of miles away, it was a place that the royal family was proud to own and be named after. Many years ago,we had our own Kings and Queens. We are descended from Kelt's, people in unison with farming and we still are. The Kelt's fought for their Independence against the English once, we lost but we still fought for Cornwall. But would anyone bother to do that now? I wonder.
Cornwall is rich in metals and especially in Tin, hence our mining history, the pastie was invented because of this, and who doesn't enjoy a Cornish Pastie?
St Piran is our Patron Saint, of which we named a day, when all people proud to be Cornish march down the streets, dancing and singing, shouting to the world that Cornwall is as important as any other country in this world, and as long as have voices we will claim this forever.
Soon there will be another census coming out and if you are Cornish through and through and proud to claim this, then you can put down Cornish in the Census. My whole family are doing this, because we are PURE Cornish through and through, and proud to be so. My middle name is Cornish, and I named after another of the Cornish Saints, this to me connects me to Cornwall even more.
My village is named after St Piran, and we have his well.
Everything that I am is Cornish, and I feel so insulted and hurt to know that people my own age, don't see what I see, don't understand, how much Cornwall is important to their lives.
Just look at the Cornish buildings art, literature, every time you see something in Cornwall and it takes your breath away, just realise that deep down you cant hate Cornwall, because it is amazing, it has so much History surrounding it, that you cannot just brush it off and ignore it.
I was disappointed today, when I went to the Truro Parade, to find barely anyone was there, despite Truro being packed with people.
But you know what?
Next year, I am going to encourage the Guides I work with to practice some traditional Cornish dance to perform next St Pirans day, I am going to talk to Truro Cornwall County Council to have Cornish flags all over Cornwall, to have the people who busk sing Cornish songs, to talk to local schools, to have them parade down the streets of Truro....to have foliage and stalls of Pasties everywhere.
Wishful thinking? Yes maybe.
But I am determined to do this.
I will raise money if I have to.
I want Cornwall to be Celebrated the way it SHOULD be, not ignored.
NEVER IGNORED.
I love Cornwall.
HAPPY ST PIRANS DAY!!
