Regrets

They linger in your head.
A mistake perhaps.
Or a choice made to quickly to be rushed.
A nervous reaction to something you know you should have gone through with.
Or an angry emotion that eats away at you.

Like buying a pair of shoes in a charity shop thinking that you wouldn't be able to get anything better and then popping into another shop by whim and realising you could've bought a much better and prettier pair of boots at the same price.
But then its too late.
You begin to hate the shoes that you have bought and yourself for not taking your time, for not thinking.
Then you forget that had you not gone into that shop and bought those shoes you might not ever have gone into the next shop and you would have had nothing new at all.

Regretting can be viewed in so many different ways. Whether it be influenced by peer pressure so that you feel you have to rush the choices that have been presented to you at the time, or by the fact you feel that you have finally found everything that you could possibly want. But you are then thrown into the path of something you constantly lust for thus regretting your past choice.
Then you find that it was the right one and regret everything you did.
Doubt is also a bringer of regret, it seems to wallow up inside you especially around considering relationships.
It is natural to doubt and to regret, but when a person is involved it hurts the other so much more.
Yet it is a huge part of our lives. Makes us be more considerate of the choices we make in life, our actions and the things we say.

From a writers point of view regrets are what makes a person. It gives them a story to tell, something more to add to their character. It, in many ways is painful, but it develops us as human beings, teaches us something new every time. Whether it be to more patient, more open minded, or more confident and carefree. And even when it means that you have to be more careful when spending money on a new pair of shoes.
