Each passing step came towards us,
that momentary leap into
distance.
Further behind, you were from me.
Looking, helping, coaxing you to follow,
yet possibility fled.
The desperation formed
foundations,
that carved stone walkways,
and intrigued a certain traveller.
the sweet sign of companionship
created fullest of feeling.
It all dwindled once
the world left you.
Shock never quite sustains the damage.
Those lingering thoughts of hatred.
Of how much of a better friend I could have been.
Of how neither of us will never know.
not once before comprehended.
In till that moment when you silently
closed those doors behind me,
as you left.
